Joshua Dela Cruz

Joshua Craig B Dela Cruz was truly a mover and shaker during his time at New Milford High School. During his senior year, Josh was president of the Student Council, President of the Music Honor Society,
a member of the National Honor Society, and the Spanish Honor Society. He was a Peer Leader, a member of the Choral Ensemble and the Spring Musical. Josh was also an integral part of the Cross Country Track Team for all 4 years of high school.

During his freshman year, Josh was on the Papermill Playhouse stage accepting the Rising Star Award for Best Ensemble with the other Baseball players showcased in Damn Yankees. During his sophomore
year, he returned to the Papermill Playhouse Stage nominated with the cast for Best Musical, performing with a sword in hand, a segment from Camelot.

Josh has a rich baritone voice, one that will melt your heart. During his sophomore year, he competed against hundreds of students in Bergen and Passaic Counties for the Roy Meyer Scholarship and won. He was cast in the lead of the original musical Bagel Factory during his junior year and as the lead in Arthur during his Senior year. Josh was given a scholarship to the 2007 Voices at Papermill playhouse and is now a notable alumni used to help advertise the Rising Star Awards.

Josh went on to Montclair University to graduate with a BFA in Musical Theater. During his sophomore year, he already had the lead singing and tap dancing in Crazy for You. While he was in college, Josh came back to NMHS each year to give workshops on “Acting Through Singing” after the Spring Concert. He wanted to share with the students what he had learned and loved.

After college, Josh performed in the King and I at the Muny Theater, in Merrily, We Rolled Along at the New York City Center Encores, in Here Lies Love, at the Public Theater, and made his Broadway debut when Aladdin opened, where he delights and entertains audiences with his beautiful baritone voice, graceful dance skills, acrobatics, and his engaging acting skills to this day. Josh has surprised many students of the New Milford School district with a talkback with the cast of Aladdin after many shows. He was a featured guest on the CBS sitcom Bull and staying true to his passion and craft, even his proposal to his wife Amanda went viral on YouTube and was seen on NBC. He continues to come back each year to participate and perform in the Benefit Concert for the Spring Musical and this year, he is spearheading the event and is bringing members of the cast of Aladdin with him.

Joshua Dela Cruz was an outstanding student at New Milford High School who did it all; worked tirelessly and made it seem easy. He was always sincere, with a heart of gold, led by example, and put his best foot forward in everything he did. On the first page of the 2 full-page ads he sold to support his class and his high school yearbook, it was written, “Success comes from doing the best you can do and pursuing your dreams until you make them come true.” Joshua with his unbelievable talent and tireless work ethic has achieved success that others can only dream about and has paved the way for many students of NMHS to strive to reach for the stars and follow their dreams. As Josh sang, many times on the Broadway stage of Aladdin's “Proud of your Boy?” Josh, we hope you realize we have always been proud of you, and we will always continue to be proud of our boy Josh from New Milford High School.
