Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Emily Correa (Summers)

From a young age, learning about history has always intrigued me.  Ever since Mrs. Tavel's 6th grade Social Studies class, I have grown to appreciate the importance of learning and, more specifically, learning about the past and how it relates to the present as well as the future.

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Certification in Secondary Education.  I have had the pleasure of teaching in the high school I attended in Hamilton, NJ for one year and then Grice Middle School in Hamilton for the next four years.  In addition to teaching in Hamilton, I was the Varsity Girls Head Swimming Coach at Steinert High School for 7 years.  I am currently the Head Swimming Coach at New Milford High School.  I recently moved to Bergen County and have the pleasure of starting my 9th year of teaching at David E. Owens. I currently teach 6th and 8th Grade Social Studies at DEO. In 6th Grade students focus on the geography of the United States and United States History from the Colonial Period through the Reconstruction Period.  In 8th Grade students examine the Middle Ages and the Renaissance along with current topics of citizenship and the U.S. government through the study of Civics.

My goal as both a teacher and a coach is to provide my students and athletes with a safe environment that promotes confidence, self-motivation, curiosity, positive social interaction, and critical thinking skills.
