Standards Based Report Cards and Grading Benchmarks Header

Standards-based grading accurately portrays student proficiency/mastery. In standards-based grading, grades are based on:

  • Standards
  • Levels of proficiency
  • Achievement (with behaviors reported separately)
  • Performance on assessments of learning.

New Milford Public Schools assess elementary students three times per year. Standards-based Report Cards provide parents with information that identifies specific areas of strengths and/or weaknesses. Students receive marks that report student progress on meeting content and performance standards. Elementary standards-based report cards highlight the most important skills that students are expected to learn in each subject. Those skills correlate to benchmarks that further define expectations for each grade level. The report cards and benchmarks align with New Jersey Student Learning Standards and elementary school curricula and programs.
