History has always been my favorite subject in school and I continue to enjoy it today. I have been in the New Milford school district for eighteen years and have worked with the social studies department to develop the current curriculum. The 7^th grade history curriculum has been developed to ensure alignment with guidelines from the Department of Education. This year’s course is uniquely designed to examine the formation of the ancient civilizations and their contributions to societies throughout the world. Students will analyze various topics and cultures such as the Theory of Human Evolution, the Fertile Crescent, Ancient Egypt, China, India, Greece, and Rome. Such studies allow for a greater understanding of our nation’s institutions and philosophies as well as other countries throughout the world. This approach aligns 7^th grade with the 8^th grade curriculum while increasing student writing skills, map skills, comprehension, achievement, and analyzing of historical documents and texts. This year I have received the honor of teaching 8th grade for the second year in a row, which I find to be truly exciting.
